For many years cigars have been known to come from countries such as Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and many others but how often have you heard of a cigar from Colombia? Not very often, if at all. Sure, some manufacturers have used Colombian tobacco in some of their cigar blends but how about being able to enjoy a 100% Colombian cigar? Well that’s just what we are. We specialize in offering a selection of premium handmade cigars from Colombia.After my first box of cigars in Colombia I quickly realized that Colombian tobacco was truly unique. Since Colombian cigars are pretty much only found in Colombia, until now of course, I did a lot of searching for info and I couldn’t find very much but what I did see almost every time was that they were often compared to Cuban cigars. I soon began to try out all the other brands I could find and it was proving really hard to dislike any of them. And so Route 45 Cigars was formed. The name was chosen because of the road that goes from Bogotá to Bucaramanga is Ruta 45A. It’s this road that takes you to all the main cities where the cigar factories are located in Santander.
Believe it or not, Colombia has actually been producing cigars for well over a hundred years. The most well known region where the tobacco is grown and cigars are made is the Department of Santander. This region is excellent for growing tobacco because of its rich soils, deep valleys and wonderful climate. It is this same land that has made Colombian coffee and cacao famous and highly sought after around the world.
